What counts as 'Spending'

Hi, I am considering getting a cashback credit card, but I am not really a big spender.

I will soon be sub letting, so my rent will go straight to anther tenant, this could be via cash or via direct debit. Is there a way that I could use a credit card to pay my rent and pay it off in full every month?

Or does this not count as spending?

Thanks!

it's unlikely that the person you pay will be able to accept credit cards

If you withdraw cash that is a cash withdrawal, not spending.

Yes, but you'll be charged to take the cash out, which would probably cancel out any cashback benefits.

You can pay council tax by credit card. That might count as spending maybe? And that would net you a load of cashback

yeah, i buy all groceries and council tax on a credit card.
but unless your landlord can take card payments, you wont be able to generate cashback paying your rent.

That depends on the credit card company.

There was a long discussion regarding Barclaycard as they have recently changed their T&C and it looked as though paypal transactions would no longer be treated as purchases, but after lots of confusion with Barclaycard giving different people different information, it appears paypal transactions will still be treated as a purchase. (With an exception of things like gambling though.)
