credit reports - give me credit

Im sorry, but I really dont know where to post this. If someone needs to move this or pass me a link to where I might find my answer I would be very grateful.

I was trying to view my credit report so signed up for a 30 day free trial with Give Me Credit (I tried other people but they couldnt find me or experian said I was registered, but I dont know my details) and I cant seem to deactivate my account. I dont want to be charged and I dont think they were very good. I know I have got a bad credit rating and they seem to think I have a non-existant credit rating, ie no loans or credit ever.

So anyway has anyone managed to deactivate their account with these people and how? I have contacted them once last week and I am yet to hear. If I dont get a reply I will have to cancel my bank card which Id rather not do. So I would appreciate some help please.

Cancelling your bank card will do nothing, they will still be authorised to take money from your new card, as with most subscription based products you buy. Have you taken into account that it is a long bank holiday? That may have caused a delay in getting back to you.

They cant can they? Surely its up to me who gets my money? How do you stop card payments then for things you dont want? I have thought of that, but Ive got a bad feeling about this now.

I can't post the link, but if you go to the banking section of the main site there is info on recurring card payments there.

You have authorised a payment, on a recurring basis.

I would wait until tomorrow, then I would hound their customer service department.

  • I have read that article, thanks. It was very usefull. I shall give them a few more days (I do have just under 10 days before payment is due) and try to get in touch if Ive not heard anything.

According to one person when I get a new card I will have a new card no so they shouldn't be able to take money off me if I do cancel my debit card. I got the impression that it was just credit cards where they can still take money. Though I haven't read the whole thread yet only skimmed it, so I may be wrong.

You are wrong. Recurring charges stand with debit cards too. You will get a new debit card number, but they will still be allowed to take the money.

Im slowly finding that out by reading that thread in more detail. Thats just pants. It shouldn't be allowed or at least should be easy to cancel. Im really worried about this. I dont want to pay out £15 for a service that not only I dont want, but its better service from other companies.

Anyway back to the point of this thread, I still would like any experience from anyone who has dealt with Give me credit.

I can not help with that, I have only used Experian (creditexpert) and equifax. They are the two major players in the credit file market. Credit expert is now too expencive so I only use equifax now and again. You should be able to cancel with give me credit as long as you get to talk to someone on the phone.

  • I will see what happens, thanks. I did try both them, but as I have just moved, equifax just said there was a problem and Experian said I was already registered, but I dont know my details with them it was a couple of years ago when I last checked my credit report.

I do have one idea about it if I need to, but I will ask on the reurring payments thread too. The fact that Ive not made a payment yet, will the bank see that there is a recurring payment made on my debit card so wont transfer the charge to my new card? I have not authorised a payment from this company yet so its not a recurring charge yet is it?

Yes it is an authorised payment, you have given your payment details. It will be in the small print when you signed up.
