Name on mortgage but not on deeds query

Hello, please can anybody help with my query...

I have a query that has been playing on my mind for sometime now and can't seem to find any answers on the Internet for it.
I married my husband in 2007 and was then added to the mortgage of the house that we both live in. However, he was reluctant to put me on the title deeds as it was going to cost us "unnecessary money". I bring up our 5 children (2 of his from a previous marriage and 2 of mine from a previous marriage and 1 of our own) and currently I am not working. I am uneasy about the situation as I don't really understand why he has done this and it seems such a sensitive issue to raise again with him. Please could anyone tell me what would happen should we divorce/separate of even god forbid die whilst my name is not registered on the deeds.
Many thanks.

You'd have no entitlement to the house, it belongs to your husband. You should really get your name put on the deeds.

I would never move into a house owned by someone else, you have no protection, no rights, nothing. He owns it, If I was you, I would borach this subject and get yourself put on the deeds and the mortgage, it will cost about 600 pounds which is not a small amount of money, but worth every penny should the worst happen xx

As you're married, I don't think it's simply the case that you would be entitled to nothing from the house. I'm not saying don't worry at all - just don't worry too much. The fact that you are on the mortgage would be taken in to account.

Oddly, though - the mortgage company would normally have insisted that the deeds were changed when you were added to the mortgage. You may have to involve them again if you get your name put on the deeds.
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)
