Are you entitled to a decent rate of sick pay for any length of time? It sounds very much as if you are suffering from work-related stress, so you may be able to get signed off by your GP to give you some breathing space while you get de-stressed (and do some job hunting!)

Another thing you could do is to get your doc to sign you off long term & eventually, after following proper procedures, your company will be able to dismiss you on account of your continuing illness not allowing you to do your job.
Not the ideal solution maybe, but at least this way you don't have to worry about being told you shouldn't have given up a perfectly good job & it will give you the breathing space you really do need. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0
