Hi,
I paid £225 last Decemeber to exit the Abbey. Just got a cheque for £126. That means they charged me £99 admin fees. It should only cost em £35. They still have £65 of my hard earned. Should I push for it? Have I much chance of success of getting this balnce owed? Is there a letter template for those that have received part re funds?
Help would be appreciated.
Thx,
Toddy

you'll not get any more, they hav epaid you the difference between th esum initially quoted and the charge made. How does it "only cost them £35"?I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it.This signature is here as I follow MSE's Mortgage Adviser code of conduct. I think it depends on how much of a fuss you want to kick up and how long you've been with Abbey as to whether you will get it all back.
We've been with Abbey for 17 years (3 mortgages, 2 properties) and when we paid off the mortgage back in december we had the usual blurb about this fee but I kicked up a fuss and got the compliant escalated to the head office.
Took a while but they gave me a cheque for £225 (even though I hadn't paid it so why they couldn't waive the fee I don't know!) so I then wrote them a cheque for £225 so the effect was the same.
They did state it was becuase of our long association with them so perhaps we were just lucky.
Having said that I would have settled to pay the redemption fee that was in force when we took out the mortgage.2014 Target;
