Cashback website paid me too much

One of the larger cashback websites I'm a member of must have suffered a computer glitch at the time and the cashback tracked at a higher rate it should have. I thought I'd never get it, but I did.

Add a couple of zeros onto what I was expecting for a rough estimate of what I was paid.

This was 6 months ago and have heard nothing, money is sitting in my account.

It's never mine though right? Whats the safest course of action from here?
It's not a typical banking error, the fault is entirely with the cashback website, but not really a fault as I have the amount they were going to pay me 'in the system' for months before it came through.

You could view it as compensation for all the times cashback didnt track.....

I was under the impression that the way cashback sites worked was that they only paid you after they'd been paid by the company (but maybe I am wrong?) But if that is the case then the company must have paid out...surely they would have noticed if something had gone wrong somewhere and they were paying out more than they should? (And when you say a 'couple of zeroes' do you mean you're getting £1 instead of 10p or £1000 instead of £10!)
  • If thats right then Starrybee perhaps they've kept quiet as they've also skimmed their fat % of the larger payout too?

A thread over a one pound payout isn't worth making, so let you deduce the position of the decimal point and the extra zeros!

It happens sometimes. I got paid for taking out a new current account - I actually only clicked through and looked at it, whilst a friend got paid for taking out Sky even though the installation was abandoned so the account was never opened.
