What else has debt made you think about?

Two things.
- How much I must have wasted on interest and compounded interest over the years.
- Funeral costs. Morbid maybe and no pun intended given my avatar and user name.

Two family deaths, sister and mother. One had debt and no cover the other had no debt and a paid funeral plan. I am now somewhere in the middle no debts, no cover for Mrs. Mort and some cover for me.Proud to have dealt with my debts, became debt free on 03/11/2011. Repaid £54,723.41 LBM May 2006.

I am more organised than i ever used to be, still got a way to go. But like beadgirl we are eating better, the house is tidier and we are better dressed....probably cos i think hard about buying something instead of always impulse buying and looking like a bag of spanners lol.
5 years till out dfd but then i will be careful to save for what we need instead of resulting to credit. I would love a new car, a holiday and a new sofa but they will all be the result of careful saving and bargain hunting! What a great thread!
Facing up to my debt has made me re-evaluate what I actually want to spend my money on. Especially when I break things down to my hourly rate (such as a t-shirt, is it really worth 4 hours work)? I've also realised that I really don't need to buy all the trinkets and things I had, and am now clearing out!
Once DF I would love to go on a holiday, but at the moment OH and I tend to spend any spare cash (when we need a treat) on experiences rather than stuff, such as gigs, snowboarding (at the dome not the alps!) or day trips away!
I am however still a bit naughty for meals out, prob twice a month at a tenner a time but gotta have a treat and a catch up with my friends so they don't all think I'm a MSE-Bore!!! :rotfl:I have enough money for the rest of my life... as long as I never have to pay for anything again!

On the funeral costs question, of course it has crossed my mind, fleetingly. But there is little point worrying about something which won't concern you after the event. If you are in a place to provide for funeral costs, then you're not in debt.
I'm sure there are unspeakable topics which debt makes many people think about. Adds a whole different perspective on the subject.Debt free - Is it a state of mind? a state of the Universe? or a state of the bank account?

You can prepay for funerals, massive discount and claim your coop or other reward points on it. Very MSE!
Have a good day all xx0
