Currys won't replace rusted electric cooker

Hi all
I took out 5 year extended warranty on an electric cooker from Currys. It has rusted. I went instore and was told not to bother to ring as this is not covered in the warranty. I wanted MSE help before I ring as the number costs a fortune.
What can I do? Is this reasonable bearing in mind that we cook food and there is rust present.
Thanks on advance

What part of the cooker is rusted, and was the rust caused by any damage to the enamel or paint on the unit?0

What is the number?
See if there is a geographic or freephone number listed as an alternative here:

it really does depend on what part is rusted.
If it's a foot and just cosmetic then no, I don't expect you would get far.
Give the contact centre a call first and see what they say, no point asking for advice here first without calling them. You don't diminish your rights by calling first and you might find out you never needed to come here and asking for advice only delayed the repair/replacement parts.0 -
If it does not affect the operation or safety of the cooker, then it's a cosmetic damage, and unlikely to be sorted. Cookers are often in positions whereby they can be scratched and scraped easily, which can lead to rust.Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -
Read the terms of the extended warranty. If the damage is cosmetic then you will probably find this is excluded by the warranty (but do check).Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0

Hi,
Its exactly what CoolHotCold and Esqui has advised. If its rust and it does not affect the workings of the machine then the terms and conditions of your agreement will not allow for a repair.
If it affects the use of your machine where the quality of your food is affected then its something an engineer will have to take into consideration and then possibly repair.
Hope this info helps.
Kind Regards,
Paul

Thanks for your replies.
I would say it does effect the working of the unit and quality of the food. I will give your team a call and see what happens. I'll post an update as soon as possible.SECRET OF SUCCESS IN LIFE:

Not that I'm sticking up for Currys but a bit of rust on a cooker is NOT going to affect food in any way however you stretch your imagination.
Do you really expect insurance companies to replace your cooker because of cosmetic blemishes? Of course not! You really do have to be sensible about these things. An insurance policy or repair agreement agrees to put your appliance in working order.
Can you explain just how rust on the (presumably external) surface of a cooker can affect the food inside?
It is just a nonsense claim, really, what are you talking about???0
