I left some mince and veg cooking for the dogs in the slow cooker when I went to work yesterday afternoon, and asked OH to switch it off about 6. Got home about 10 and he said it was still on, so I asked him to switch it off. I've just went to seperate it into portions to freeze and realised he has put it onto the 'keep warm' setting  the instructions say this must only be used for 2 hours, its been on this setting for about 14 hours  has anyone else done this before? Will the food still be ok for the dogs to eat? and more importantly, has he broken my slow cooker  Hes out at the moment, but I'll be waiting at the front door with the ladle for him getting home :rotfl: he had better be wearing a crash helmet.

Personally I'd chuck it, would'nt fancy taking a chance and end up with a sick dog:eek:
My SC has a auto cut off after 1 hour on the ' keep warm ' setting to prevent this happening.

I'd feed the food to the dogs (let's face it, they'll eat sheep poo, so a little overcooked mince isn't going to harm them) and I think you'll slow cooker will be fine, but you'll need to check it out.
I had mine come on on a timer for 5 hours with nothing in it and it recovered once it had had a breather
I hope it is ok

I can't see it hurting the SC as there was something in it, as for the food, I cannot see a problem there either. Smell it, if it reeks, then its off, if not then its fine.Member #8 of the SKI-ers Club
Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Thanks for the replies. The food is now cooling down, will smell it once its cold and maybe get OH to taste it first before testing it on the dogs :rotfl: One of the dogs has a delicate stomach though, OH can eat anything so he might get it for his tea.
