Downsizing

I was divorced in 2009 and was awarded the house with my ex husband having no further interest in it. He was ordered to pay half of the arrears on the mortgage and on the secured loan. I was allowed to stay in the house with my 4 children provided I didn't fall more than 3 months behind which I haven't.
He initially agreed that I could downsize to a more affordable mortgage. Both myself and my youngest daughter (10) are registered disabled. But every time I got to the stage of having a buyer and an offer accepted, he would change his mind when it came to signing the mortgage.
Because he failed to pay any of the arrears, the mortgage account is in the debt department. I requested to move back into my previous house which was mortgaged by the same company. They said that had I asked before I was put into the debt dept they would have said yes, but now it was not going to happen.
I have a percentage of my mortgage paid by the DWP on a 4 weekly basis, but because I am only on benefits and can only pay my mortgage 4 weekly, I am being taken to court for repossession. My daughter was awarded a disability grant to modify the downstairs to make it safe for her to live here, but I can't go ahead with it because I can't guarantee I'll be able to stay here.
Is there anything I can do?

Thank you for any help you can give me
