Searches on credit file - I have a problem

My partner applied for a joint account for us both the other day. I also applied for one meaning I now have 2 searches on my credit file. Is there anyway I can get this removed from my file?

I also have 17 searches for car insurance on my file. I am guessing this was due to gocompare.com. Is there anyway I can remove these as I would prefer to limit the amount of searches on my file?

Help and advice appreciated.
Thank you.

The bank account searches are ligitimate - why would they be removed?

The car insurance ones will be ID check I presume, unless you went to purchase unless one policy will show a credit search if you pay monthy. Again, these searches are legitimate, and no doubt in the Ts and Cs of the comparison service that you used.
  • Both myself and my partner did an application with the same bank meaning 2 x searches from Nationwide when only one, in effect was needed.

    Basically, a mistake.

Because you were applying for two different accounts (one sole, one joint, from what I gather from your post?), two credit searches is absolutely normal.

Should you apply for a credit card with NW tomorrow, a loan on Tuesday, and an overdraft on Wednesday, you'd incur 3 more searches, quite legitimately. One search for every product, no matter how recent your latest search was.

Don't worry about the car insurance searches, unless they all state that they were credit applications (which they shouldn't). When you use price comparison sites, etc., it's totally normal to see dozens of identity checks, quotation searches, etc. They won't affect your chances of getting credit. Nor would 2 x searches from NW, in the grand scheme of things.
  • No.

I applied for a joint account for me and my partner. She however did the same. Meaning we both have 2 searches with the same bank, due to us both doing an application by mistake.

No it's not. You were checked as a joint party in one application, and sole in another application. 2 apps, 2 checks.

The fact that you think that only 1 should be needed is your opinion of Nationwide's business rules. It might be worth writing to ask them to remove, but they've done nothing wrong.
