Discharged, so what to do now?

I know a lot of threads start with people saying so what happens now I'm discharged and the answer is very little. I wanted to do a sort of summary of my bankruptcy but little has changed since I did it. There was no interview, no contact really since, apart from a letter from Moonbeaver to say don't send us anymore money as it'll take us ages to refund (standing order already cancelled, but a nice touch I thought).

I know from reading other posts you don't get anything automatically to say its over, and I vaguely remember something about being able to print proof off the internet. This would be a preferable option to paying for some certificate unless I need the certificate for anything.

How long is advisable to wait before beginning credit file clean up?

Any input welcome

PS I may post details if it would help others, although I think most of it is in earlier posts. My bankruptcy ended in May and for me it was actually much better than earlier times...

Hi David, Your right you don't need the certificate from the court, as you pay £70 to the court where you went BR (in some cases depending if you are on benefits/low income you can have this for free as well). Do email/write to your OR asking for a letter stating that you are discharged or from the IS site print off several copies showing your discharged status.

Search Insolvency Register - Click here

Don't forget to click on your surname to bring up full details.
Your discharge status will remain for three months then disappear.

Wait 2/3 months and then clean up your credit files as Fermi's sticky below:

As IF says, ask you OR to send you a letter stating you have been discharged. I don't think anyone will take notice of a screen print from the insolvency register. Congratulations!!

Once you've been discharged for a month or so start cleaning up your credit files - sticky on front page of this forum explains all you need to do.

It will disappear off the public IS register after 3 months. It will stay on the London Gazette for always. You always have to declare that you have been BR if you are asked 'have you ever been BR' but don't if asked 'are you BR'.

I haven't got any further or better advice than the great responses already posted, but just wanted to say congratulations on discharge :)

It's my turn on Thursday this week, I've a BRU in place but still, knowing I'll be discharged, no IPA etc.. I'm just grateful that people like yourself make the point of saying youre discharged, even just days away it helps keep the end in sight :)

I hope your credit file cleanup issues are as painfree as possible, perhaps it'll be all good. I'll probably wait the 2 or 3 months as advised, but have saved a link to the sticky thread for cleanup on my desktop so I don't forget!

    All the best :)
