Remortage taking to long

I am remortgaging (shared ownership) through Britannia. My problem is with the solicitors deal with it. I applied on the 10th February, went on holiday on the 19th March and returned on the 11th April. I informed them of this. I sent the forms back to them before we went away. and they seemed to sit on them and did nothing while we were away. For example I phoned them on the 12th April and they had not done anything. They said that they were not sure whether I wanted to borrow more money to purchase the other 50%. I filled their form out correctly as they had asked (I wish I had taken a copy & I read all questions at least 3 times) so I do not see how there was any confusion. Also they seem to think that they have until the 9th July when in fact they only have until 9th June (confirmed from Britannia) to complete which I have told the solicitors but they insist it is the 9th July. They do not seem to be in any rush. I have always phoned them and they have never phoned me.

The question I have is if they do not do their job, in remortgaging they should not be paid, is this true ?

Also is there someone that I can complain to (maybe FSA, please comfirm)

Thanks in advance

My remortgage with the Woolwich took 6 months. As they had quoted 6-8 weeks, I complained to the Financial Ombudsman and the Woolwich paid me 4 months difference between the rate I was on and the one I was moving to. I would suggest that you could try something similar if you are being left out of pocket. I don't think you can not pay them though
