First time buyer with bad credit.

Hi

Me and my partner have been together for 2 years and are looking to buy our first house. I have average credit (as i have not had much credit in the past, but never defaulted or missed a payment) but my partner got into a bit of trouble before we met, with credit cards, catelouges, rent, utilities, phone etc. Over the past 18 months we have sorted out all of the debts and have rented for the 18 months. All house bills are currently in my name except council tax and the rental agreement. Again we have not missed a payment on anything in the past 18 months.

Is there any chance we can get a mortgage as i can not get enough of a loan for me on my own.

We want to start looking but dont want to apply if it will make our credit rating worse.

From past records and credit files we look pretty bad, but in reality, we have sorted this out and financially comfortable.

Any advise would be great. We have an appointment with a mortgage advisor at Lloyds TSB for their lend a hand scheme on monday so any advise before then would be great.

Thanks

    There isnt enough information.

What were the defaults, how much for, when, when were they satisfied.

Dont discount an actual mortgage advisor though - go and see the bloke from lloyds but they can only recommend lloyds tsb products, a mortgage advisor has access to a wider number of lenders.
