The Shaw Trust

I have an interview for a job as an employment advisor with the Shaw Trust and I was just wondering if anyone had any experience of working with them?

I am currently a charity fundraiser and looking to find a new career. This job sounds really perfect for me, but I want to make sure that the company actually puts the emphasis on helping people, and not just hitting targets.

Any help would be really appreciated.

I've never worked for them, but I have experienced their help, and I can tell you they really do focus on helping their users. Very helpful and encouraging. Although they obviously have targets to meet, they are very user friendly. Hope that helps.

Have you done this type of work in the past. You may find you have a busy caseload and will be expected to meet targets to ensure the organisation collects bonus payments.

I would agree with this - they are certainly one of the "good guys" in comparison to A4E, Ingeus etc.

I did look in to the job before applying for it and am aware of what it involves. I have lots of relevant experience and wouldn't be going for an interview for a job if I didn't think I would be good at it.

My question was more to get an idea of the morals of the business, rather than whether I was capable!

Just out of interest, what did they want by way of qualifications?

I got the interview through an agency putting me forward for the role, so not exactly sure.

However, I would imagine that there aren't really any qualifications that are essential for the job, just a whole load of skills that you need to have had experience of.

For the future, if you are advising clients on obtaining employment, an Advice & Guidance NVQ might be useful. You could ask them whether they would support your gaining this qualification.

Thanks for making me aware of that particular NVQ. It's something I will take and ask in the interview.
