Diaries and journals

Does anyone here keep a journal or diary? If so do you still use paper or do you use the computer for journals or your mobile phone for a calendar type diary? I do journal a lot and worry about privacty and wonder if going electronic would be safer, thing is it might not feel the same as using pen and paper.

Please do not feel that either of these formats is somehow "safer" than the other. I have had written and electronic diaries "discovered" and read by others in the past who have then used the information to hurt me. You should therefore write in whichever format you feel most comfortable, bearing in mind all the while that the written word can be a dangerous thing.

However, being "outed" is NOT the reason why I no longer keep a diary - so please do not take this as meaning that I don't think you should keep one at all.

Hi, thank you for your reply. I thought that journals on the computer would be safer as you can password protect it. Paper journals can be hidden or locked away but a current one in your bag or lying around can easily be read, I have had this happen to me before too. I somehow feel that written journals are more personal and nicer to use though, did you feel the same when you kept a diary?

I try to do both, because often I want to draw/paint as well as write, and tbh I'm not that adept at using drawing software! You can password-protect your writings if you're using Word (just go to: tools;options;security) so there shouldn't be a danger of it being read by others.

If you're journalling long-hand in a book, then yes, it's true, even nice people snoop(!!:rotfl:) and someone could see what you've written if they wanted to, so I guess when you're journalling that way you have to bear that in mind.

I did not password protect my journal as I was clearly a bit naive about the matter. If doing it today I would of course password protect so there is always that...nonetheless, people can easily copy/find out passwords, hack your account etc.

As you point out though there is something nice about still writing something longhand these days. You just have to weigh all of these things up and choose.

City Girl (who is Fusspot) you've asked this question quite a few times in the past. Is there something your looking for in the answers that your not getting or need help finding and looking through your past posts? Just seems that as I've answered this a few times for you before if I'm not helping/we are not helping then it could be helpful if you say why then we can help you properly.
