Hi im a newbiee and im hoping one of you might be able to help!
My husband had a few cataloges at one time and for one reason or another they ended up going to the debt collectors.
My question is once we have paid them off- which is quite soon
can we start to use said cataloges again or will my husband have a bad credit rating/ be blacklisted from them?
It would be nice to know just for future. As far as im concerned id rather we stayed well clear of them!
Thanks
Steph

Staying clear of them may be the best option!
However, answering your questions specifically...
If your catalogues have gone to debt collection, your bad behaviour may well have been reported to any or all of the credit reference agencies: Experian, Equifax and Call Credit. You can check this for free through free trials and such, or for a £2.00 fixed fee. Google each one and see what's available.
You can access your credit report totally free for life via Noddle (Call Credit) - https://www.noddle.co.uk - be aware though that Call Credit is the lesser of the three agencies, and may not hold all your accounts. If all is OK at Call Credit, it doesn't mean that your Experian and/or Equifax files are also clear, so it's best to check them all.
Anyway, if your credit files show that you have defaulted on these catalogues (or show anything else like county court judgements), you may struggle to access credit up until 6 years after the date of your most recent default.
Catalogues are one of the easiest credit products to qualify for, so they may not be too fussed about bad credit, but any catalogue you have already defaulted with is extremely unlikely to offer you further credit. Bear in mind that many different brands of catalogues are actually provided by the same company, so watch out for that, and read the small print carefully before applying. There's no such thing as a blacklist, but there is such a thing as certain companies effectively barring certain people, for certain period of time (or forever!).0 -
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0

Mrs B,
From my past experience they do tend to forgive you with time and reoffer credit.
The second part as has already been stated is work out whats on your file and start rebuild your credit score. Check out Martin's tips to do this:

However time is going to be the great healer with this0 -

I only heard about Noddle today. On here. From somebody who signed up, and within hours had previously silent creditors on the phone chasing up 8 year old debts.
When something is free, ask yourself how they make their money. In this case, it seems to me that they're funded by DCA's, who use it as a means to get your contact details.0 -
Thanks everyone!
I thought staying away would be best!
I think I will check his credit scores. Jason1231972 thanks for the sites to look on & timbstoke thanks for the advise think i will stay clear of noddle!
