Does arborio rice keep indefinitely?

It's been in a glass jar and looks fine. Will it be OK when cooked or will it perhaps not soften as it should? Don't want to risk it if there is a chance it will end up like gunshot pellets.

Rice of any description keeps a very long time. Brown rice can have a rancid smell after a while but is still safe to eat.

Many thanks for your reply. I'm surprised you even saw my post as the moderator in his/her wisdom has moved it into this thread. Other than the fact the rice in question is OLD , I don't see what the connection is with "old style money saving"!

I thought the food & grocery thread was the most appropriate but it appears I know SFA!

    I second what HappyMJ said.

I buy rice in bulk & some of it hangs around for years & is still fine, in fact some kinds of rice, Basmati for instance, is more prized the older it is.

That said, I'm having fun getting through the 20 Kilo sack of sushi rice I bought by mistake :o

I'd guess your query was moved because the Old Style Forum tends to be more focused on the practicalities of food & cooking, as opposed to being mostly bargain oriented, so you'd more chance of getting a reply based on experience :)

It'll last for years in a airtight container.I have a bag of Thai Sticky Rice in the cupboard that has to be over 2 years old, bought it for a specific dish, & it's still OK.

Nah. This is definitely the place to get answers to that question.

And the answer is it will keep for years and years as long as it is in a Tupperware or other sealed container where it stays dry.:)
