Debt Collectors

Hi all,

I'm sorry if there is a thread somewhere that covers this but i am a little confused and worried (which adds up to being impatient).

I received a letter last year from a debt collectors about a debt that i was sure wasn't mine, i copied the template letter from the debt helpline and sent it off and never heard anything again.

I have since moved house and last week another letter appeared from a new company, so i copied the letter again and sent it off.

I got home today to another letter from them with details about the debt and my old address, i was sure the debt wasn't mine but i am now doubting myself, in the letter they say the account was opened in 2002 and defaulted in 2003. Is this still a debt they can chase and how can i find out further information to prove if this was mine or not.

I am not trying to avoid paying it if it is mine, but i really don't remember taking a card out or getting into debt with it, but i don't want to pay for somebody else's debt.

Had another couple of letters from them in the meantime, one of which offered to reduce the debt by 35%. This moring i received a letter from AKTIV KAPITAL that read

"We refer to your recent letter regarding the above account . We have investigated the issue raised in your letter (statute barred) and can confirm that your account is statute barred under the limitation act 1980. We have therefore taken the decision not to pursue this matter further. We can confirm that the account is now closed and you should receive no further contact from us with regards to this matter."

YIPPEE!! Feel so relieved!! Now they have confirmed this can i get them to remove the searches they did on me and hubby(even though debt wasnt his)
on our credit files? the credit searches came through as Lowells and not reds

Hopefully that is the end of all this now x definatley write to them but i reckon emailing is best as you will get a response.
