Switching from the contraceptive implant back to Depo injection

Morning all!
I have had the contraceptive implant for nearly two years now and until now haven't really had any problems. In the first year I probably had about three periods and in the first few months of this year, had just one. I was previously on the Depo injection for about nearly 9 years but the nurse refused to keep me on it as generally they only allow people on it for a maximum of 5-6 years (though I've heard other people not having this problem) so after looking into the other options went for the implant.
However, in the last 7 weeks I have had 4 periods! I literally have 5-6 days off and then another begins. It is seriously starting to annoy me now!
I want the implant removed and to go back to the Depo. I don't want the Pill as I cant be relied on to even take vitamins and cod liver oil every day, nevermind a contraceptive! Plus there is a history of blood clots related to the Pill in my family, including my Mum, so its generally not a good idea for me.
Has anyone else done this? I know the implant is championed by the NHS and clinics but its not working for me.

Why not consider a Mirena iud? I was on Depo for 9 years but was taken off it as current guidelines say no more than 3 years, my kids are grown up so a Mirena was a good option. Also, I don't have periods now. I am just on my 2nd which will now stay there until I am past the menopause.0

Have you put a lot of weight on in a short space of time?I'm never offended by debate & opinions. As a wise man called Voltaire once said, "I disagree with what you say, but will defend until death your right to say it."
Mortgage is my only debt - Original mortgage - January 2008 = £88,400, March 2014 = £47,000 Chipping away slowly! Now saving to move.0 -
I think you will struggle to go back on the Depo. Mrs G was on it for years and years but was the told that she would have to switch to something else. She managed to persuade them to let her continue on it for another year but that was it. Her sister (a nurse) recommended the Mirena coil as it worked for her (and it made her boobs bigger.) Unfortunately, Mrs G didn't get on with the Mirena (and her boobs didn't get any bigger) so she swapped for the implant. So far so good.0

Current guidelines are only 3 years?! Jeebus!
I did research the Mirena but I just didn't like the idea, plus I read it was quite an ordeal getting it fitted if you haven't had kids. I could have another look though, thank you!0 -

I've definitely gained quite a bit since being on it but I can't really say whether that's due to the implant or if I'm just a piggy! In all I've gained 2 stone, one each year0 -

Oh boo! And I'm already a 36dd so extra boobage isn't a too exciting prospect!
I may have to read up more on the Mirena, I know modern coils are much better than the old ones.0
