Would you exchange job satisfaction for more pay?

I have been encouraged to go for promotion at work but I am reluctant to do so. I like the job I have very much and am very happy there and get on well with the people I work with. If I were to apply and be successful I would have to work full time but would also get a massive 16K a year pay rise (with all the responsibilities and stress to accompany it!).
A couple of years I would have gone for it but in the last year my priorities have changed and I now rate quality of life far higher than how much money I can earn and material possessions. I am no longer interested in moving into senior management and sacrificing family time when we have precious little as it is. However I can't deny it's flattering to be asked.....

Nope, no way, job satisfaction lasts much longer because you'll get used to the money as your outgoings expand into that 'extra'.
themaccas - you've paid off over half your debts in a year without a fancy payrise and you have raised so much extra too! Don't do it for the money. If you enjoy your current job say thanks but no thanks. Just my two pence

Gemmzie I totally agree, I've just re-read what I have written and I'm more than happy where I am and very thankful.
Thanks

well done for being asked! I would have to say that if the money is not urgently needed, go for the option that leaves you with a better work/life balance - like you've already said, sacrificing that family time just might not be worth it!

congratulations on being asked, it's nice to know that you are apprecitated at work, i think that we are at work for too much of our lives to unhappy there, work satisfaction comes far higher than the pay, carry on enjoying the job you have got an feel proud of all that you have achieved and knowing how highly your work thinks of you

congratulations on the offer! It might be worth exploring if there is a "third way" you meet them half way?
However having sacrificed a lot for my work in the past 3 or 4 years - I'd say look after yourself first... you seem to be doing well as it is.0 -
Maccas,
In a word, NO!
I think you've made up your mind anyway lol.
Well done on the offer as well,

It's fantastic that you've been approached about the promotion, but if you are happy in your job, and you are doing well financially, that is worth so much more than the extra money.
Having said that, if they need someone desperately for the job, I may be available! :rotfl:"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
well done on the offer - very flattering. but i would have to agree that family time is more important to me as well. be happy - - you can't put a price on that. Good luck with your future0

Being happy is definately more important. Nice to be asked though!!0

Lovely to be asked and recognised but if you are happy doing what you are doing then keep at it!
you dont need the extra money and you will have even more money once your debt is totally gone! I would take satisfaction for cash anyday..... in fact once I have decreased my financial commitments I want to reduce the hours I work for money and spend my time doing things that I really enjoy and would do everyday if money didnt matter ie painting, writing, gardening hanging out with family and friends:j Where there is a will there is a way - there is a way and I will find it :j0
