Error on credit report

So, I know now that I should have ordered my credit report BEFORE applying for a mortgage...but I didn't. Then my application got rejected and so I ordered it.
There is a linked address from Capital One to someone with the same name as me but who is a Dr. So, I am not a doctor, I have never lived in the area of the address and I have never had any dealings with Capital One. Oh dear.
I have contacted Capital One by telephone. First manager I spoke to (was escalated nice and quick due to my lack of account number) could find no record of any such account. Eventually she told me I had to inform Experian and they would deal with it. I was sure that this information belonged to them but I hadn't done my research fully before calling. I took her name, reference number and extension and hung up. I filled in the online Experian contact form. I scratched my head. My mortgage broker (who is excellent!) then advised me that I needed to contact Capital One again.
My partner got on the case. He finally spoke to someone who seemed keen to help. They agreed that they could find no record of this. We faxed my credit report to him. He agreed to call me.
This was yesterday. Waited all day for a call, keeping my mobile on in meetings and apologising to everyone and explaining the reason (everyone was lovely about it). No call all day. My partner calls them and apparently they have some kind of telephony issue. Fair enough, these things do happen, we will give them until lunchtime tomorrow. Then this evening a different person calls me and tells me the other guy had passed the information to him to call and tell us to contact Experian.
We argued some more and he agreed to get the (initially) helpful person to call us back tomorrow. I have not heard back from Experian, although it has only been 4 days since I contacted them and they say it will take up to 28 days.
We just don't know what to do next. This is holding up our mortgage application and we have done nothing wrong, we are obviously worried that the vendors will decide to put the house back on the market and we will lose out (including the loss of various fees that we have paid out already). Has anyone had any similar experiences? Anyone know the magic words to say to Capital One to get them to contact Experian directly and fast? I was kind of assuming they could do this being as they own the data. And they seem to be saying that if they could find some kind of record of this account then they would be able to deal with it...
Sorry, long and possibly rambling, just trying to get all of the details in so you wonderful people can help as best you can!
Thank you everyone who got to the end of this and in advance for your help

You have to write to Capital One to the address on the Experian Credit Report, may be able to dig it out later in the office if I find 5 minutes.
Send it recorded and threaten an injunction if they do not expedite.
Experian can only do what Cap One tell them - this is all about Cap One, maybe try fraud team alsoI am a Mortgage Broker

Thank you. That is what we thought (about Capital One having to tell Experian).
However, there is not an address there for Capital One, there are for the other companies on the report but not them.
I am going to try Experian's fraud team today and we're going to try and get a letter out of Capital One saying that they can't find it and won't do anything about it...
Wish us luck!0 -
Also search this forum and there is an Experian "Social" representative who checks the boards and posts.
Seems quite efficient and may be able to give you the best communicating address for them if you pm him..
Good luckI am a Mortgage Broker

Thank you for reminding me, it just appears to be Experian though.
Capital One finally told us that they were dealing with it and that it has been bumped to the front of the queue. They have agreed that it is not me and should be removed and are contacting the credit agencies to tell them. Hopefully we should have a letter (faxed and posted) tell us that it is not me and that they are contacting the credit agencies to have it removed. Fingers crossed that letter is enough to appeal the mortgage rejection otherwise it is 28 days apparently until it will have gone through.
Thank you all for your help and time, it is much appreciated.0 -
