How to stop debt letters for someone else.

Options
For a couple of years now, my mum has been getting letters from debt collection agencies addressed to a person unknown to her (or anyone alse in the family) for a debt connected to an electricity supplier at an address no-one has heard of. She started to open some letters after reciving a phone call in connection with them, asking for the addressee. She must have sent 15 letters to the debt collectors, each stating she has never heard of the person etc etc & after a month or so, another letter comes from yet another debt agency.
The thing is now, my mother passed away 6 weeks ago & my husband and I are looking after my Dad who has dementia at his home, one of these letters came again. I sent a strongly worded letter, but what more can I do to stop them coming? I do worry that if I don't reply to them & we happen to be out, I don't want a debt collector coming to the door coz Dad may well let them in & then who knows what!!??
Thanks if you can advise.

Personally I would not open them, write "Return to sender, not known at this address" and pop straight back in the mail box when you pass one. Don't spend any money on stamps. They'll get the hint eventually.

The same solution applies whether the debt is hers or not, whether it's continual letters, telephone calls or callers at the door. Open the letter to get the company's address and then write to them preferably by special delivery or other signed for delivery and ask them to cease and desist. Keep the letters for evidence. If they continue, make a complaint to the financial ombudsman service.
