Repossession is more of a problem than banckruptcy, although the initail deal might be a bit tougher.

The thing is BR does not affect secure debt and as long as there is enough equity, the mortgage provider know their brass will be returned if everything goes pear-shaped.

I have just had a look at my credit report on experian and alot of the debt I have isnt on there. Does anyone know why this would be?

Could be on the other credit report sites. You may want to check them all.

I would get the credit reports from Experianm, Equifax and Callcredit to see what debts still show on your credit file. As you said above you've run up debt over the last 10 years. There is a chance some collectors are chasing you for debts that havn't been acknowledge in over 6 years. In which case they are statute barred and they can't chase you for them.

So get the reports nad take it from there. Don't pay anything to a debt your unsure when you last paid towards it. If it was say 5 years 10months ago, you'll restart the clock.
