Save by Spending More Money on Shoes

I know the title sounds like a contradiction but its probably the best saving I've made over the past few years.
I wear (mens) shoes for work and most of the time out of work, by that I mean leather brogues, oxfords etc (rather than trainers).
After years of buying from Schuh, Office and general high street stores I was fed up, shoes would last between a month and six at a push and were costing me £50 or £60 each.
I had a conversation with a former butler and he mentioned that the guy he used to work for had had the same 4 pairs of shoes for the last 20 years. I did some maths and worked out I'd spend about £4k on shoes in that period (without inflation).
Why were his shoes lasting so long? Quite simply because they were good shoes and he rotated them, not wearing a pair more than once or twice. And when the soles wore out he had them re-done for £10-£15.
I've bought Loakes and Barker shoes and have had three pairs over the past few years - they cost £80-120 each in the sale and are all in great condition.
You get much better shoes, are more comfortable, the customer service is generally better online with high-end shoes and you save money!
Herring shoes (google) is my favourite, fantastic customer service.
