Removing a default

Options
Hi All

Will try cutting my long story very short

I am a 25 year old male, always had good credit and never ever missed a payment for anything in my adult life.

My partner is not so careful with money, she basically had a Avon account which was in my name (another long story), and somehow she ended up owing them money around £400

I had forgotton the account was in my name and obviously never paid

Next i know we had debt collection agency letters threatening court action, so i paid quite promptly, however they left a default on my credit profile, and when appling for a loan last week i was refused :(

The lady in the bank says i may be able to get this default removed which was put on in around 2009

I have maintained my good attitude towards any credit i have since 2009 and never missed any payments

Does anyone know how i can get this removed or have sample letters i can use?

Thanks in advance
Dan

Dan, Bad news this default is an accurate reflection of your file.

Although she had the account it was registered in your name.

Can I ask is it all paid and marked as settled?

This will be view marginally better as not paid. You may be able to plead with them but I've got 33 late markers on my account and only ever managed to get 3 removed by sheer dumb luck

You can only get a default removed if a mistake had been made.

You were responsible for the account and didn't pay it, therefore the default is accurate.

You have more chance of winning the lottery than getting them to remove it.
  • Thanks for the replys people

So basically thats that im unable to get a loan now until 2015?

Even though i have a good income and my outgoings are always shown as paid and on time

Yes the debt was settled as soon as i received a letter from the debt collection agency, however they left a default on my file

Sorry to be harsh but you didn't stick to the t&cs of the original credit agreement - as SeduLOUs said, the account was in your name and your responsibility ...... it's not Avon's fault you forgot about it.
