Was the test just comparing liquids, creams etc or did it also compare machines such as the skipdr cd/dvd repairers?

I read on a few websites that people thought highly of the automax and the results it acheived. It saves the old elbow grease as well as it is automatic at taking a thin layer of plastic away. Apparently sonetimes you have to put it through a few times. The special liquid according to some reviewers is just filtered water.

Would Brasso also fix scratched handheld game screens which are plastic?

EDIT: I found the following customer review of using Brasso on Amazon.com:

"Brasso is a VERY BAD idea. I tried in on both an Ipod Photo and two PSPs based on an article such as this one. The problem is, Brasso contains petroleum distiliates, which not only make your gadgets smell real bad after you've applied and then cleaned them (and from what I can tell there is no way to get rid of this smell- they are permanently tainted), but you end up touching these petro chemicals and inhaling them every time you handle your gadget. They make your hands tingle or burn (for lack of a better word) the same way getting gas on your hands does.. it gets under your skin and no amount of washing with remove this feeling. I have tried cleaning the gadgets with liquid soap, and glass cleaner, to no avail... they continue to smell. Considering the high petroleum content of this chemical, I would not even recommend it for polishing metal, such as sinks or faucets, or anything that humans come into contact with."

So perhaps it is not a very good idea to use Brasso even though it removes the scratches.

The best thing i have found and used without fail is toothpaste! Just rub it on the CD/DVD leave for a few minutes and clean off with toilet roll and then rinse under tap and dry. The slighly abrasive nature of toothpaste (i.e. the stuff that gets the dirt off your teeth) smoohts out the hars scratches that mis-directs the laser and allows them to pass through.

I've got the manual version, which is also an excellent price on Gameplay...

    http://shop.gameplay.co.uk/webstore/productpage.asp?productcode=AC5593&title=skipdoctor_advanced_manual

    (I paid a lot more - £22.00 from recollection)

It works a treat, spray the DVD with their supplied liquid then turn the handle until the DVD/CD has done one revoltion...now repeat - DVD repaired! It uses fine emery abrasive paper which rubs on the disc from the edge to the centre - quite alarming to see it in action, but it does the job well..

Perfect when you have heavy handed young kids.

ive just ordered a couple of manual ones from ebay, skytronic? ?

little lad has approx 100 x box games and less than half of them work now so may try one of these automatic ones..

sure its just another microsoft trick though as lots of them look new still.
