work life balance calculator?

The govt claims that it wants the citizens to have an appropriate work/life balance.I want to spend more time with our two small children as this time will never come again

in that spirit I am wondering if there is such a thing as a program or an algorithm that allows you to factor in/ calculate the benefits of working 35 hours or 18 hours and the effects that has on tax paid, tax credits etc and anything else you can think of as a cost or a benefit.

I am sure there must be a law of diminishing returns and I would like some help in calculating what working different hours will mean in financial terms and make a decision with as much knowledge and planning as possible.

Cheers
