How Long to Build UK Credit History

At the moment, I'm considering moving to Northern Ireland from the Republic of Ireland.

I've a reasonably big deposit but, as most mainstream lenders aren't available to me with no credit history in the UK, I'm considering purchasing a small flat with cash initially (one that requires some improvements) and living in it whilst doing it up.

I have a Northern Ireland bank account and was recently approved via their internal checks for a £1k credit card.

When I move into the flat, I'd apply with them for a £10k loan over 18 months for home-improvements and apply to get on the electoral registrar.

How long would it take for the majority of mainstream lenders to give serious consideration to any future mortgage application for a home? I'm assumming it'll be at least 2-years and possibly 3.
