Woolwich - Barclays: I'm on the edge

Is the Woolwich/Barclays customer service simply the worst in the world ever? All I want to do is port my existing mortgage to a new house - problems include:
- spending an hour on the phone to the call centre trying to set up an appointment in person at my local branch. They told me that Newcastle on Tyne didn't have a branch and could it be known by any other name?
- being unable to tell me over the phone if they held my deeds and where to write to to access them. They had to write to me and it would take 5 working days
- sending me a letter saying that they don't have my deeds as I have repaid my mortgage. Except, erm, I owe them £175,000.
I tried to complain, spent ages typing it all on the complaints form, and then after clicking the "next" button - all the information was lost as "secure banking is currently not working". Aaaaaaaaaaaaghhhhhhh!!

In answer to your first question - probably not, but certainly in close competition for the title !
No banks hold residential deeds any more - mainly 'cos they don't exist as such.
See UK Land Registry (get a copy of the title register for £4Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
1) Get it in writing that you don't owe them anything.
2) Profit.
