I wanna digital camera

Help Please

I've finally decided to buy a digital camera and have gotten it down to a Nikon 5200 (looked at Pentax S5i, Pentax S50, Nikon 5600,etc).

Best price is Pixmania and with discounts can get it for £159 delivered, the only problem is location of Pixmania. If anything went wrong I would be worried about after sales service and return postage.

I tried a price match with Jessops but they wouldn't even accept the Pixmania price, why?

The best price they got was £189 after giving them information of a UK seller at £174 delivered.

Anybody any information on Pixmania or on a way of getting this camera cheap. If anybody knows of an upcoming Boots 10% day that might do it with another code giving me 20% in total! :rotfl:

  • Hi,

i wouldn't be put off too much by Pixmania. I purchased a Palm PDA and case from them recently and then found that the PDA already had a case. I had to organise return of the case and go to the post office (obviously hassle but doable) but it did arrive (I think they are in France) and they refunded my credit card no problems.

I also got some points via rpoints.

Do not buy from Pixmania!!! I got my camera from them and everything was in French including a French power supply!!! This happens even if you select the UK as your location, they will still send everything in French. Apparantly, theres some small print that warns you of this.

When it comes to cameras I prefer to buy from a physical shop i.e. Jessops. That way if I have any query at all, I can just nip into one of there stores and pick their brains. As far as I know they will price match with any UK based shop, my friend got them to price match with https://www.ebuyer.co.uk, they are currently selling the 5200 @ £176.24 inc VAT.

    Good luck

Bought from pixmania for personal and business use. The Canon I got came with a french manual, but Sony and Nikon were English - check before buying. You also get a UK power adaptor. Manual always on a PDF on the CD anyway. Had to return a nikon coolpix for repair, and got it back fixed within a week. Spoke to an English bloke and he was very helpful. Great company. You can also get 7% and more off your purchase - see other threads. Prices are VERY competitive as well. ( and you get 20 free 6x4.5 prints ) Jessops won't price match because Pixmania is French and they see it as an import !

Because they are based in France the company has to be UK based which is fair enough
  • Thanks all.

I did want to do the deal with Jessops after checking previous threads.

I got the details about the price match and went armed with details of Pixmania @ £159 and A.J.Purdy @ £169 + postage. They wouldn't entertain Pixmania and Purdy's they would only go down £189!

I can get it around £180 at Boots but I want the next 10% sale day to get it lower, Curreys have it £195 with a discount if I get it over £200.

Do you have any other Jessops in your area? I know someone who managed to get them to pricematch the internet price on a good Nikon digital camera and saved £130! I think it depends on the manager - some don't care! Oh, and if you take in a digital camera mag with that camera shown as cheeper (e.g. from photo optics) they will give you 110% of the difference back on the purchase. Am going to try it on the panasonic soon :)
