drop a jean size

Has anyone done this? Does it work?
I am size 16/18 at this moment in time, really hot and bothered and want to be slimmer for the summer. I though I would kickstart the diet/healthy eating with the special k drop and jean size 2 week challenge.

what do you think???

My husband had cereal (not special k) for breakfast and lunch then whatever I put in front of him for tea (not always low fat, however usally a general well balanced tea) and he lost 2 stone over a few months. He also exercised which I think (unfortunately) is the key.

  • Hi Lucylema

My OH and I have just started a diet. We have downloaded free aps to our phones which monitor your calorie intake and any burned through exercise. Makes you really aware of all the little extras like the odd biscuit.

I am a 16/18 like you and have lost 5lbs since Sunday, have not felt hungry at all and am drinking loads of water as that is also monitored.

I think this is the ideal time of year to diet as I don't feel like eating as much when it's hot and there are loads of lovely fresh fruit and veg around to fill up on.

    Good luck

The downsize is the moment you start back on proper meals the weight will just pile back on, you lose more water and muscle weight than bady fat. the easiest longterm solution is to cut the carbs down or out, another thing that amazed me was switching to using coconut oil rather that a low fat spread, I find I set myself up to fail if i eat anything with the word diet attached :D you don't put weight on overnight so you can't remove it overnight either, you'd have better long term if you look to small changes rather that a whole new eating plan that will lose it's appeal very quickly.

Do google coconut oil tho, we've had amazing results in this household from incorporating it into our lifestyle

Cereal diets don't do it for me, I tried the biggest loser meal replacement program, which was fantastic for me, and very filling, and nutritional, only problem is they are expensive.

I am no longer doing that, but I am still dieting, slimming world philosophy is great, there is a free sample menu on their website.

I am not sure if I'm able to post a link to my diet blog?? It isn't advertising anything, it is just my weightloss journey, for anyone who wants to follow it, I've also tried slimfast....erugh. (my blog is in my profile)

(apparently when I changed my link in my profile it didn't work! it should now! It is called Diet Management)

I dropped a jean size in the last 6 weeks, without particularly trying. Primary changes to my diet:

    - I started eating breakfast where I'd usually skip it. Usually a bowl of crunchy nut corn flakes. It seems counter-productive, but it seems to 'wake up' the metabolism ready for the rest of the day.
    - crisps and sweets got swapped for fruit
    - I started cooking food from scratch more - i.e. bolognese with fresh veg and tomatoes, not from a jar.
    - tried to make sure that a third of every meal is veg of some kind. Strangely, this is in addition to my normal portion size, so I'm actually eating more.
    - swapped from Tesco Value Mince (~25% fat) to Extra Lean Mince (<5% fat)

    Things I didn't do:
    - cut down drinking - I still average 1-2 pints a day
    - exercise more - I always walked to work, but exercise wise I haven't changed a thing
    - get military over calorie counting. I borrowed a friends slimming world book, and used it as a guide to 'free' foods I can use to fill up on/bulk out recipes, but in terms of my meals, I don't worry about counting the 'sins' - as long as a third of the plate is veg I'm golden.

I dropped from 13'11 to 13'1 in 6 weeks through those few simple steps, and am a clear belt notch slimmer. I've also discovered foods I had no idea I liked, and regained my passion for cooking. I experimented with sweeteners before deciding 'yuck'

I agree with all of this and would like to add drink lots of water otherwise your body retains what it has and you feel bloated, make this a way of eating for life rather than a diet and your done, exercise is great for overall health but not necessary to loose weight when you eat like this:)

Eating breakfast cereal instead of meals is not sustainable. Since I began low carbing I've gone from size 22 to size 16. Since December I've lost four inches off my waist and am almost size 14 now.

I have type 2 diabetes and since 2010 when my blood sugar Hb1Ac test was 13%, it's now normal. Also got normal or better blood pressure, cholesterol and kidney function. Liver enzymes are improving, don't have anaemia any more and have dropped two drugs since December. As my liver enzyme level is dropping rapidly I expect that to be normal very shortly.

It is my firm belief that cutting out sugar and processed food is probably enough for anyone to lose lots of weight, keep it off and get healthier.

That may not be a quick fix but quick fix diets don't work, lifestyle changes do.

If you only do one thing ditch the sugar.
