NPOWER are cheeky B****rs

Options
about 3 months ago i set up a DD with n power for what they said would be £81 pcm to be taken on the 1st month or next working day.
I could see at the bank that they had set the rate as variable amount and the date was not set either though they have always stuck to the first week of the month.
I called them and explained that i am on a very tight budget and that they need to give me a set direct debit or i will have to change to SO, they assured me that they would change the DD to a set amount but they took and extra £5.00 on 1st may.
I called them again and explaind that this was not acceptable and also informed them that i was moving house on 13th may so could i please cancle the DD and i will pay the balance when they generate what i owe from my meter readings.
Today they took £212 from my bank- no letter, no email, no phonecall- they have all of my forwarding details.
I went into the bank and they said that Npower had set it up as a one off direct debit but they could reverse it for me as i claimed it was not authorised and they could see thet i had just made a payment on the 1st of the month.
the adviser in the bank also told me that they could just set up another one of DD and try to take it again.
!!!!!!- how is this allowed???
I agreee that i need to pay the balance but to just take the money with no correspondance and after a DD cancle in the band and with them.
If this is allowed i will never pay by DD again and risk this !!!!!.
any advice greatly received.
thanks:D
yes i have 6 kids by two different fathers, but Im the parent that is there for them ALWAYS!! :A

    Direct debit indeminty act!

You have an agreement to pay a set amount. They muck it up and take the wrong payment. You are protected under this act to speak to your bank and reclaim the money instantly. You can also reclaim any charges you have incurred at this time

I'm glad the woman offered to reverse it. I have to fight tooth and nail about this with some companies.

The last occasion just as I started my DFW journey orange took £195 from my account. They got a very blunt phone call telling them I was invoking it as they could see this would throw my account into credit by £180!

I'd also be asking Npower as a cheeky recompense for some compensation. You might get something knocked off the bill due to their systems error
