Need advice on icecream treats for 100 people

Hi, I'm doing a party for about 100 people (seriously ill children, their siblings and parents). If the weather is nice I was thinking of doing coke/lemonade floats as I remember them being so exciting as a child to have a scoop of ice cream in your drink! I'm just planning on getting tesco large tubs of icecream but I have no idea how many I need and how many portions you get out a tub with a scoop per a person. My friend suggested getting lollies too for people who don't drink fizzy drinks, I'm in 2 minds as I can see kids who would enjoy the float going for lollies because they know what they are (that's no problem) or wanting both which could have interesting results getting straight back on the bouncy castle! Would you do floats and lollies, just floats or just lollies? We have no freezer at the hall so someone will bring them from my house which is fine but don't want a ton of waist just melting in the sun (I'm being hopeful about the weather, hoping not to be serving hot chocolate instead!).

!I'm also doing strawberries and cream !and other fruit, the strawberries are to be eaten with fingers so I was thinking of a little amount of double cream or clotted cream but can't decide which is better (I'm thinking double but don't want it really runny if it's hot).

Any advice from people use to catering would be great please!

In my opinion you would be best sticking to just lollies. Floats are definately an indiviual taste kind of thing - I loved them, but my kids tried them and hated them.
With lollies you know exactly how many to get, and the kids get a bit of a choice between flavours.
We found Tesco lollies - the fizzy pop flovoured ones to be great at 2 boxes of 10 for £2.
If they are eating with fingers I would say clotted cream. Double is far too runny and messy.
    Hope it all goes well.

    I think it's a lovely idea in theory....but I agree with Augustsmum :)

If you really want to go the extra mile you could do these Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes (easy peasy but timeconsuming and not cheap) http://recipes.howstuffworks.com/ice-cream-cone-cupcakes-recipe.htm

OOh, you brought back so many childhood memories, we used to have Ice Cream Soda with a scoop of ice cream in it and we had a spoon to eat it with.

And mum used to make us a cone out of newspaper, put a big spoon of sugar in it and then we had a stick of rhubard to dip in it.

Many many years ago but its like it was yesterday.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Mckneff, did you eat the rhubarb raw? I've never heard of that before. I thought of coke floats as I remember my first one as a child, I couldn't believe it was coke with a scoop of ice cream in! I remember it like it was yesterday.
    Will check them out pixie
Thank you augustsmummy, I do need to make the party as simple as possible so maybe lollies alone would be better

yes, definitely raw rhubarb, it would have been too floppy cooked.

Always tried to get the red stuff though but if there was no red, then we suffered with the green lol.
