Hey, where did you go for in the end? I'm recently engaged and looking for a cheap Somerset venue also...further ideas welcome!

We went for Escot House... Its in ottery st Mary - ended up going for devon as it was easier for fiances family from Cornwall. I don't know where in somerset you are but there's a barn in Horton just outside ilminster and i think its called the square and compass... I've seen some lovely things done with it and its reasonable too i think (or used to be anyway!). If i think of anywhere I'll let you know - 2 of my friends are getting married 2014 and have gone for brympton d'evercy and haselbury mill. Don't know how reasonable they are though x
