Making money from online surveys, does it work?

jo32143,
I recently (within the last 6 weeks or so) signed up to 70 survey sites and get about 5-10 surveys a day, of which I qualify for about 50%. I've received no cold cash as yet, although I've heard from several sources that one can make a couple of grand a year. I'll believe it when I see it - all is being recorded in my blog which I'm trying to keep relatively light hearted (since the subject is fairly dull). Good sites which give helpful advice on these things include:
http://www.surveycritic.com/
http://surveystar.blogsource.com/
http://www.katieshugs.com/paidsurvey.html
all of whom I have contacted and seem to be genuinely trying to point people in the right direction. Be wary though, that if you register through anyone's URL to register for a paid survey, you will most probably be using them as a referrer for which they will get paid by the survey company. I figure that's fine if they've put in a decent amount of effort presenting the relevant data though.
As for spam, I don't get any. I was fairly prudent in choosing the survey sites for which I signed up to...just be on the lookout for tell tale signs such as promises of free gifts and irrelevant registration questions hosted by sponsors. And don't ever pay for survey lists, otherwise you'll be lining the pocket of 'internet business entrepreneurs'.
I've compiled a list of what I think are the top ten starter tips for online surveys here:

Good luck.

hi i have joined a few survey sites reciently and have got no where, with the exception of TNS who i have found to be very good and the surveys are easy going, they convert the points you get from the surveys in to nectar points.
i do think a lot of them offer good incentives to join but then rarely send surveys and when they do you hardly ever qualify.
spose they would be ok if you had time to sit and try them.Back to comping Jan 2013 :j

I recieved £150 for 2 hours of opinions on robotic vacuum cleaners about 6 months ago!
There are often evenings where people are paid to discuss things in focus groups, IMO, these pay far better than web-based surveys.0 -

- and I guess they've collected lots of information about you and your family in the process of registering (eg number of people in the household, insurance renewals, names, addresses) all useful to sell on to insurers and so on.0 -

Have you got any more info this? A url would be useful....0 -
Sorry, no URL.. I know someone who organises these focus groups and occasionally i fit into the right 'social category'. Amusingly, there seems to be a lot of people who go to ones completely out of their category and make up fake lives!0

worried that if i cancel I won't be considered for another. Anyone want to go in my place!DEBT FREE AND LOVING LIFE0
