Santander Mortgage

Hi
I am new and just looking for some advise for my Nan (sorry if not posted in the correct area). She had a mortgage with the above which was then Abbey National. This included a policy that she had to take with the mortgage (I am guessing due to her age) after 2 years she paid the mortgage off in full, but unbeknown to any of us the bank continued to charge her for the insurance policy for the next 10 years!! We only found out it recently stopped when she mentioned that she was £55 better off a month because of it stopping, when we looked into it we realised what it was. We called the bank who refused to do anything about it saying that it was her problem and she should have notified them even though it was directly linked with her mortgage? I don't seem to be getting any joy and was wondeirng if what they are saying is correct? She has recently moved into new accomodation and sold her last property, it also turns out that Santander had been charging her building insurance, on a flat?? I didn't think that you paid that on a flat again this is all directly linked back to the mortgage she had with them? I could be wrong but I just wondered if anyone could help us, she has in my eyes been ripped off for a lot of money but I could just be biased.
Thanks in advance.
Nikki

I did wonder if she should have let them know, but because it was something Santander said she had to have as part of the the mortgage conditions and supplied the policy under the banner of Santander as well I just thought the two would run hand in hand, pay one the other isn't needed sort of thing. I guess with her being old she just didn't understand. Thanks for the reply.0
