marriage and debt advice please

Options
Dear All

I am 29 years old, divorced and in debt. I'm trying to get my debts paid off and hope to have cleared most of it by the end of 2012. My ex is still on my mortgage with me and there is no real hope of getting him off it as I need to be on a salary of nearly 40k to take it on alone. He is quite relaxed about the situation at the moment. My current partner and I have been together for 3years and live together. He has debt from his past which includes a house repossession and a cash loan. He has been avoiding these for years and hasn't let me look into them in case it impacts upon me because we live together. We would like to get married but are worried about the implications of this with his debt - he doesn't want it to pass to me or affect my ex who is still financially linked to me. Can anyone advise as to whether
A: his debt will pass to me
B: will my bad credit affect my ex
C: will my partners bad credit affect my ex
D: are there any official/legal organisations I can go to for advice?

Thanks so much

    Unless you have joint bank accounts or bills in joint names (utility bills) you will not be financially linked if you get married.

    A = No
    B = No, unless you have joint credit arrangements or you apply for joint credit e.g. joint mortgage, joint bank account
    C = No
    D = See this part of the site
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)
