TK Maxx although involves some trawling, Oxfam or local second hand dress shop.
Alternatively make it - daughter states fairly simple although can work out quite costly unless you get cheap fabric.
Have fun at the Ball0 -
Monsoon have some really nice evening gowns. You may find they still have some of their reduced stock which is usually 70% off.
Good Luck0 -
try grattan or freemans catalogue companies, and as a new customer you are either entitled to 20 % of £20 off the first order.....It is better to regret something you have done than something you haven't.....0

- You could look into hiring something perhaps??
- Debenhams still has some evening type things left over from Christmas sales - they must be very cheap by now!
- Have you any slightly older cousins or friends from whom you could beg or borrow a dress?
- Get some nice black trousers and a snazzy top...who says you HAVE to wear a dress??
- On a similar theme, buy a two piece outfit, eg skirt and camisole/bodice idea then you can later mix and match with other items from your wardrobe
- A very simple, single colour, short sleeved v-neck dress but with sparkly bling bling looking jewellery (from Claire's accessories ha ha), an even fake tan, impeccable hair and make up, and some high heels.

Good suggestions. However do practice the fake tan.
MortifiedDD went out to leaver's ball looking like a tiger with streaks all over, swears blind would never do again   but now :rotfl: about the experience.
Definitely preferred pale and interesting rather than orange and pink. My other DD suggests exfoliating, applying with lots of moisturiser and using a cosmetic sponge.
Have fun - whatever you wear enjoy :j :j0 -
My daughter got a lovely Next suit with an evening top for her school leaver's do, the suit has been worn for job interviews and a couple of other formal occasions since. Like me she isn't a dress person and it would have been a complete waste of money to buy a ballgown.
If you really want a dress then I agree Debenhams is a good place to start. Have a great time.0 -
Have you had a look on Ebay? If you get something from there you could always relist it and sell it again.
I just bought a Debanhams ball gown, yes they're expensive for one night but some of them could be worn again for a wedding or christening. They had some reduced at the Trafford Centre because the zips had come unstitched or they needed dry cleaning..... worth a look.Just run, run and keep on running!0 -
Ebay?
My best buy a few years ago was a ball gown from H&M. It cost 35 quid full price brand new, but it was made of 100% polyester. But it has been worn a few times and has cleaned well.I got this before Xmas though.
Is your leaving do in the summer? You should be able to get away with a cheaper party dress and put your hair up all posh. You could then wear the dress to normal parties/christmas etc. Something like the black dresses on these pages:
http://order.next.co.uk/page.asp?b=G39&p=34&o=1 40 quid.
http://order.next.co.uk/page.asp?b=X35&p=42&o=1 37 quid.
They would look stunning with a black wrap.
I don't know if you are planning on going to university, but you will often have balls to go to there. So an expensive dress could be an investment...if you don't put on weight.0 -

Why not try hiring a gown or else have a look in charity shops - if you go to posh areas then there are some fantastic buys in charity shops there:):):)"This site is addictive!"
