Barclays Bank Account

Hello All,
Nearly 2 years from discharge, I have applied for a current account with the above and rather than flattly refuse me, they have asked me to pop into a branch with some ID.
Is this a good thing or will they just refuse me when I get there?
Anybody had the same thing happen to them?
Thanks

Hi sam, It's hard to say really, there has been the odd poster to get a cheque book account but they are few and far between unfortunately, it will be very hard until the 6 years are up.
Before applying anywhere, we do advise to clean up your credit files first.
I know that some members have had luck with the Nationwide cash card + account and the Natwest Step Account. Plus of course with Barclays Basic account you can now have online banking facilities once discharged, so that's everything but the cheque book/OD facilities.
Best wishes

Barclays gave me there basic current account 2 days after I went BR so I dont see why you should have any problems with this sort of account.0

Thanks, I will pop into the branch on Saturday and keep my fingers crossed, the cheque book is the only benefit I need really, my childrens school has recently become an Academy and are asking parents to send cheques rather than money to school for dinner money
I sent off for my credit files on Friday for the clean up, it's been on my "to do" list for a while.0 -
best of luck BUT I have the feeling you'll be wasting your timeFriends help you move. Real friends help you move bodies.

Hi Sam
Barclays were one of my creditors when I filed for br in 2009. I have however been able to open a basic current account (2011), savings account (2011) and an ISA (2012). Until last week when I took in my proof of discharge I did not have internet access - that has now been rectified. May I suggest when you go in to the bank take proof of address, proof of identity, br certificate and proof of discharge from br. Good luck and fingers crossed.2019 MFW No. 74 £13700/£30000 (45.66%)

Hi Sam
I applied at Barclays at about the same stage 2 years post discharge.
Although after initial chat in branch was turned down after speaking to manager it was sent to head office and approved few days later no problems. Basic current account with cheque book and Visa Debit card so I think should be ok.
Fingers Crossed for you0
