Dmp plan and natwest help

Options
Hi,

I'm really new to this, I'm a student nurse and got myself into a debt which I could not handle, I contacted the cccs and they said I qualified for a debt management plan.

I've been browsing the forums and read that sometimes natwest dont accept the DMP and go for court action? I'm 20 and still live with my parents in their house, could this affect them? I'm really scared their assesses could be taken or something because I made stupid decisions.

My debt with natwest is a student overdraft of 1300 and a credit card of 560, all my other debts are catalogue and store.

Any input would be great. Thanks

If the debts are just in your name and your parents are not guarantors there should not be any impact upon them.

If you register on a debt management plan then natwest will probably default your account (expect repayment of overdraft).

there should be agencies at the local hospital. Another means of income as a student is "note taking for disabled student" this pays £10 per hour in some cases look up clearlink. When I was doing a MSc and first year PhD I did this.

your back is not against the wall as yet. if you still feel the DMP is the right way to go. then go for it. But I wouls seriously look at all the options within the student union hardship funds.

    Hope that helps

    Hi there,

As you are a student at a university you might want to contact the student union as:
    1) they can help you with advice
    2) You might be able to apply for a hardship fund it will mean filling in statement of affairs and what your debts are.

Firstly, as your bank account a student account with no charge on the overdraft concentrate on the debts that charge interest.

Also, as a student nurse you can actually work as a agency auxillary nurse that will give you some extra income and also look good on your CV.

by getting the part-time work the pay goes into the account and that will hold off the bank taking court action also I assume your next loan installment is in September/October?

Whilst I was doing my MSc and first year of PhD I did not taking for disabled students this pays approx £10ph look up "clearlink".

Seriously look into student union hardship funds that is what they are there for. If you still feel the DMP is the correct road then it is upto you.

I would first look at the nurse auxillary work and NUS hardship fund all universities have this as part of the charter.

    Good luck

    Hi there

I just though I would mention that I had a debt with Nitwest and was accepted on a debt management plan, they don't have much choice because they can see you don't have enough money spare to pay them the whole amount.

I used to get letters every other day from their debt collectors whilst it was getting sorted out.
