Preparing for my 1st mortgage... Need HELP!

Hello

I am currently investigating the possibility of getting my !st mortgage but need some advice...

I am 26yrs old and have an annual income of £26,900. My GF is a student finishing uni in April/May and I would like to look at a joint mortgage if possible, but I am just coming to the end of a DMP which fingers crossed will be gone in 3months due to a nice lump sum I am receiving within the next 2months.

My credit is nowhere near good at the mo and I need some advice regarding:

1) Is there anything I can do to make sure my credit is 'true and reasonable' apart from getting my equifax reports?
2) Are there any preferred Mortgage advisors MSE members use?
3) Has anyone got other useful advice for someone in my 'predicament'?

Thanks

  • I think you are certainly heading down the right tracks in doing what you are doing, having a good look at your credit reports is certainly one of the first things you need to be doing both for yourself and your OH.

Your best bet is to have a chat with a fees free broker ( I can PM you the info of the person I am using who has been most helpful) who can point you in the direction of some lenders who will consider lending to people in your situation.

In the mean time make sure you keep on top of any payments you have I have messed my credit record just by making a few late catalogue payments . Yes I know, lesson learned *blush*
