Good evening
I would like some quick advice before I shell out more money on the OH's ex wife.
He recently received letter from a debt collection agency regarding an unpaid bill of £30 for Sky. After some telephone calls to Sky and the agency it turns out that the bill is for a Sky account in my OH's name at the address where he used to live with his ex wife. As far as we know she still lives there. As they split up at least 6 years ago I did think 'hurray time barred arrears' and thought I could say a big up yours to the debt people. Alas, no (I think). Turns out that in the midst of a messy break up and divorce my OH forgot to cancel the Sky account and the lovely lady has been sat watching Sky for 6 years in his name. She paid the bills until January, and then didn't, and got disconnected. Obviously, as she is not a woman who likes paying her own way (sorry if I sound slightly bitter there) she has ignored the demands and now my OH has been tracked down to his new address and has been asked to pay. We have 10 days to pay or else. I lknow 30 quid isn't a massive amount (and I'm grateful in a way that it isn't more) but it;'s the principle. He hasn't lived there for 6 plus years.
Anyway, I do have a feeling that he is liable since it's in his name, but I thought I'd do a quick check for some advice on here before we pay. Any thoughts?

I would say that he will have to pay, if the debts not 6 years old then there is plenty of time. Unless the wife opened the account without his consent then I don't see what she had done wrong. If he had the account and she paid then that would be fine, but if she didn't then it just comes down to the account holder.
Not a lot can be done there I am afraid, you could always see if she upgraded (fraud?)
I'd just pay the 30 quid to be honest and check everything else that he ever held at that address, because you may find that you have a nice bill waiting! :eek:0 -
Just a thought, but why not send a copy of the demand to the ex-wife, pointing out this is for her. Also, how has she been paying the bill for the past 6 years? If she has been paying from a bank account in her own name, then I would imagine you may have grounds to dodge the bullet on this one....
However, i am sure there a re many others here who can give you the complete lowdown on this.0 -
The first thing to do is request that the account is closed in your partners name, he doesn't live there so it should be done, but as its in his name I think he will be responsible for it, if the ex doesn't cough up just bite the bullet and pay it.Excel Parking, MET Parking, Combined Parking Solutions, VP Parking Solutions, ANPR PC Ltd, & Roxburghe Debt Collectors. What do they all have in common?
They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?0
