I have several friends who work for them-I think it depends on the size of the shop, but they get to buy the food etc thats out of date at about 25% of the selling price.Thats a big perk, plus excellent canteen facilities.Their standards are high, and I have sometimes heard it compared to "are you being served"! Life can be made difficult by poor managers,or easier by good ones.0

We have a new M & S store opening up after Easter and would like to know if they are a good organization to work for ? We cannot find any info re salary and benefits for store assistants.
She is also concerned that she will find it difficult entering the employment field again as she has not done anything apart from bringing the children up for many years(First class job done) and is low on confidence. We also welcome any tips on how she can present herself to future employers in her return to work. Thanks0 -
Most stores have "staff shops" too which is were at the end of the day they sell off all the out of date/damaged stock for peanuts:D0

hate to put a downer on things but one of my friends husbands works in an m&S store and hates it. He is employed to stack shelves and has targets of how much stuff to put out in a certain time, but them gets asked to go on the till if busy but this isn't taken into account for his targets. He therefore is expected to be in two places at once. After a few run ins he got told categorically to not go on the till by his supervisor, the till supervisor one day TOLD him to go on the till and he refused as told to and it got messy. Big turnover of staff in the store. Think alot of it depends on the manager by the sound of it.0

Happens In all places
The only person you could care about is your own direct superior and theirs if the information is contradictory
If a manager on par with yours from another area tries to boss you against your own, you refuse and send him to your team leader for a reason why
This sort of thing is very common0
