Yesterday in Asda I was going to pick up the "special price" I can't believe it's not butter which was £1. The packet looked a bit smaller than usual so I checked and it was only 400g packet not the normal 500g packet.

Tesco have 2 for £2 on the 500g packs so much better value.

I hate it when manufacturers reduce package size but not the price per unit.

Worst offenders are cheese and washing powder.

Cheese prices are a big con anyway - one week they're overpriced, and the next "on offer".

OP - the place to post is The Great "Shrinking Food" Hunt. It'll open your eyes to a myriad of other cons.

I've also noticed how the price of "real" butter has pretty much doubled in the past 12-15 months. 250g pack of President is now £1.69 in Sainsbury compared with 89p at the back-end of 2010!

I wish they'd sell it in 100g tubs. 250g takes me months to get through - often even going green before I've used it all.

I only use butter - can't stand those artificial spread things. I also bake a lot, even though there's only me :o

    Could you not freeze half?
