national trust membership?

I'm thinking of getting annual membership of the national trust. Just wondering does the membership entitle you to free entry to the events that they run eg county fairs, easter hunt, jazz picnics or is it just entry to the grounds?

Many thanks

Annual membership gives you access to the National Trust estates on most music events, but I think there are some events you'll need to pay for e.g. opera evenings. I've been to jazz sessions at most of the estates and haven't had to pay yet. Not sure about country fairs, but would imagine they're included. The National Trust site will usually give a separate price for members.

Membership is handy for skipping queues, especially at Mount Stewart where it gets pretty busy on jazz Sundays in good weather :)

Friend of mine joined New Zealand National Trust which she says has a reciprocal arrangement with UK one and is much cheaper!

Best offer would be going via the cashback sites like quidco - new members getting cashback, and often 3 months free on top if you join with a dd. Scottish National Trust also have reciprocal arrangements but I think the cashback plus 9 for price of 12 offers still beats the cheaper annual membership of Scottish NT.

Annual membership is not that much more expensive than a family going to one of the properties twice in a year.

The money paid goes almost exclusively towards the maintenance and upkeep of our heritage and to me is really good value. I know this is moneysavingexpert but for goodness sake to suggest paying your money to an overseas organisation to benefit from a reciprocal agreement is sheer lunacy!!

    Please, please dont do this.

The National Trust in Britain need your money for the upkeep of the beautiful places that you are going to see.

If everyone did this, there would be no jobs, no lovely places because NT would have no money if it was all going to New Zealand.

My suggestion is not supporting going to outside the UK so then UK do benefit. In these hard times there is nothing wrong with joining the NT uk and getting cashback to help pay the subs - the trust offer 3 months free on their own website which is where quidco takes you. I am sure most people allow the DD on run on and renew the following year.

My post no. 5 and post no 6 was a direct result of post no. 3, saying her friend joined the NT in New Zealand.

Yes. For Castle Ward campsite for example, non NT members pay £31 and NT members pay £12, well that's the price per night for a weekend I've booked at the end of June.
