Aldi changed 1yr returns policy to limited 30 days!

Many Aldi shoppers will know Aldi used to operate a generous returns policy that if you weren't entirely satisfied with a product you could return it within 1 year (with receipt usually) for a full refund/replacement.
This gave one the confidence to buy their specials knowing that if you were let down you weren't on your own and could get your money back without any hassle.
I presume either lack of competitive pressures and/or too many people across Europe have misused that policy (have read of many people returning £££ LCD TV sets etc just before the year was up!) and Aldi have revised it according to new section on their website.
There is a new link on uk.aldi.com to http://www.aldiwarranty.co.uk/ where it includes their new leaflet with its key basic returns policy of:
"Everything’s covered by our 30 Day Refund Policy
"Sometimes you can buy something and when you get it home, it’s ‘just not quite right’. We understand this. So we’re happy to refund or replace any item you buy from us. As long as you return the item within 30 days of purchase – with a receipt, in original and undamaged packaging, complete with any accessories such as headphones or remote controls – the Aldi 30 Day Refund Policy is available to every customer."
They still offer 2-3yr warranties on many appliances etc, but still a significant change in trading terms that Aldi customers need to be aware of.

Many have bragged about returning before the 12 months were up only to buy a new item so its hardly surprising. Thanks for the post.0

Well I don't believe they can retrospectively change their terms. If at the time you bought it they were offering a 12m no-quibble returns policy then you should still have the benefit of it.
Additionally if the spec said "this works well at night" but it doesn't then clearly its not fit for purpose.

Can anyone verify the legal position with respect to this change. In short here's why I need to know;-
1 Reported error on TV within 30 days
2 Service organization sent engineer, who agreed agreed there was a problem
* asked if we could wait for fix as he was unable to address the problem at the time
* we agreed to this but had restricted functionality on the TV
3 In January (3 months after purchase) service organization rang to confirm issue still present
* we confirmed it was
4 In March service organization rang telling problem couldn't be repaired and we should return TV to store for full refund
Now the roundabout we are on;-
1 Went to store without TV, asked deputy store manager if they would accept TV on return
* confirmed they would
2 Three days later returned to the store with TV
* Aldi wouldn't accept it as it was outside of the 30 day period!
* explained above...
- fault had occured and been logged within the first 30 days
- had been awaiting an engineer to provide fix
- we had been told to rerturn to Aldi for refund by service centre
The TV is currently at Aldi, I wouldn't bring it home. We are now waiting for the service organization to confirm whether Tevion will offer a refund, and are getting nowhere! Aldi are not currently in the mix other than they have the TV.
Seems to me Aldi have a problem without retrospectively applying the new 30 day return policy and anyway I have a record of recording a 'fit for purpose' problem within the first 30 days of purcahse which I was expecting to have corrected.
Anyone offer advice on this sorry story.0 -

Hi,
New in here, thanks for the good advice. I bought something about 6 weeks ago that I wanted to return. I queried in the shop as to when the new policy started and was told '1st March'. Great, I simply put it to them that the conditions when I purchased where a 12-month return. They went on about using the 3 year warranty, but I explained that it was not faulty so that was irrelevant.
Anyway the long and short was I got the refund - the large queue of irate looking customers behind me may have helped though !
