Good recipe for a slow cooker stew

My wife decided to buy a slow cooker to make cooking a little easier, when it's my time to cook.

I have some braising 'slow cook' steak, but now need a good and easy to follow recipe to help me cook it. I assume a stew or is it a casserole that I would be best to make.

Can anybody help please ?

thanks !

There's a brilliant slow-cooking thread on here if you have a search.

Beef bourguignon in a slow cooker is fab, I can't remember where I found the recipe though, have a google & you'll find quite a few.

Stew = food/meat/veg/mixed together cooked slowly in 1 saucepan on the hob
Casserole = food/meat/veg/mixed together cooked slowly in 1 container in the oven

  • I bought a slow cooker a short while ago and now wouldn't be without it. I usually use casserole steak (or chicken, turkey), some veg that I pre-cook in the microwave to soften it a bit, and a jar or can of Homepride Sauce or Chicken Tonight or similar. So that it's not too runny I add some pearl barley. Leave on for 6-8 hours and it's perfect every time.

Never knew that, thanks! So what do you call one cooked in a slow cooker? I tend to say casserole, just because it sounds nicer.

    if your braising steak.
Buy some cheap wine or stout.
No need to get a exspensive one and add at the end.

My tip for using the slow cooker is add lots of water at the begining so need to watch it. Then about 30 minutes before your ready to eat, pour the liquor into a saucepan and blast the heat up to reduce down all the sauce right down. Thus you keep all the flavour from the meat and veg in there.
