I want to start buying organic meat but i'm not sure which supermarket has the best prices. There is an independent organic butcher near me but the prices are phenomenal - £1 per chipolata!!
Does anyone already buy organic meat regularly? Any recommendations?

Not real experience, but I guess Waitrose could be a starting point to check out
I have found that as money gets tighter generally the likes of ASDA / Morrison's have reduced the number of options available, so free range / organic option is limited
I know Waitrose have the "Duchy original" range, but you would have to DYOR or acceptability, for instance lamb slaughtered to conform to Halal rules? Maybe OK by you, not by me Duchy was Halal BTWEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -

I have tried Higher Hacknell Farm and the first box was very good the subsequent 2 boxes were not as good, items missing etc. I have also used Eversfield Organics very friendly service but I decided I preferred to order what I wanted rather than a ready made box which I have done with Eversfield Organics but by doing this you pay a delivery charge. On monthly set boxes its free.
Because of the delivery charge I now mainly buy from Ocado as I purchased a Groupon voucher which gave me free delivery as discussed they do the Duchy range as well as Lavertoke Park, Waitrose and The Black Farmer.
There are alot of online organic meat suppliers always check first for any special introductory offers. Ocado a short while ago was doing £30 off a £90 spend on 02 priority moments. I wasn't on 02 but someone on Hukd kindly sent me a code.
Also if you were to try Ocado if one of your friends is an existing customer and they recommend you then you would get £10 off your first 3 shops and then the existing customer would get £20 off when you had placed 3 orders. Its a better offer than just going to the website as it says £10 off your first shop only.
Good luck on finding a supplier, personally I prefer to eat organic where I can too.

Just wondering if you knew of any way to tell which meats were Halal and which are not? Currently they are not labelled and as a result the vast majority of meat from Supermarkets is Halal, partly because its cheaper for them to do but possibly for reasons I do not understand.
I was wondering if you knew of places that definetly were/were not so it was possible to make my own choice rather then having one forced upon me.0 -
ooh halal and organic, that is FANTASTIC! I had been told that most supermarkets tend to have halal even though not labelled, so glad it's confirmed on the Waitrose website, cleaner non bloody meat for me, have studied the science behind it for years, cannot go wrong thanks x:T0

But many other Supermarkets do the same, Waitrose from what I can work out has a higher amount but other Supermarkets do the same. Does anyone know of any supermarkets who DO label one from the other?0

I don't seek out halal meat in particular, but all this fuss about it in my opinion is a diversion from the real issue. The problem is not the debate about how much animal suffer at the end of their life, but DURING, and having read a bit about how cruelly animals are treated, true organic, outdoor bred meat is much more humane, regardless of halal or not halal.
Now, back to the original question.
Waitrose reduced stickers are the best value for money organic meat I've ever found, great quality and incredibly cheap. Obviously it's a bit hit and miss but I stock up when I can.
But for 'proper' organic meat, I occasionally buy from Riverfords. They do mixed veg/meat boxes that are good value for money for what they are.
Supermarkets always try and find loops and way round rules and standards, they just check as few boxes as they can to get the badge, so personally I don't value supermarket organic meat over a local farm with outdoor bread animals.0 -
I only buy organic meat but tend to do so not via supermarkets. I'm not sure if it's the cheapest way of doing things (indeed I'm sure it's not!) - but I tend to buy from Abel and Cole or Riverford who deliver to me weekly whatever I've ordered. I've not bought a meat box from either though as I prefer to pick and choose.
If cost is important, I believe ordering a meat box can be quite economical but I haven't compared prices with a supermarket. We have had very good quality meat from the Well Hung Meat Company (it was a gift though so not sure on pricing) and Graig Farm Organics & Laverstoke Park also do boxes of meat.0 -

Supermarket + organic meat is an oxymoron to me, sorry
Would you not consider bulk buying for the freezer?
I buy my meat from here or my local butcher which, whilst not organic, is "naturally/traditionally reared" by him or carefully selected by him from other farmers he knows.Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -
