UK Tax - newbie - plz help...!!!

UK Tax - newbie - plz help...!!!

Hi

Facts:

1. I have arrived in UK on work permit for the first time on 26/01/2006.
2. My average monthly salary here in UK is 3000 pounds.
3. I have filled P46 and P86 (based on my own limited knowledge) and have applied for National Insurance Number (awaiting actual number receipt).
4. I have received my Salary for Januray for 6 days and also February salary.
I have received the payslip. There is no tax deducted or for that matter there are no deductions. Whatever is Gross Pay is what i have received fully.

5. My payslip shows Tax Code - 503L
EE NI - category X

6. I am yet to receive March Paylsip so dont know whether my employer will make any deductions.

7. My expected stay in UK is 1 year.

Queries:

For period uptill March 2007:

1. Do I need to file a tax return here in UK for Income received in January, February and to b received in March 2007...???

2. Assuming answer to above is yes; what if i dont file...??? Do i lose anything...???

3. Assuming answer to above is no; although not necessary but still do u think filing tax return voluntarily will be of any advantage...???

4. What is the last date for filing tax return for March 2007...???

5. Where can i get cheapest but reliable service for tax filing...??? (In Maidstone Kent...???)

For period after March 2007

1. Do I need to file any form now or any other thing which will help in minimising my tax for April 2007 and thereafter...??? I mean can i do something now like filling any form etc which helps to avoid diffuclties later...am i missing something now...???

As u must have understood I am completely new to UK and also not aware about taxation aspects.I am looking for appropriate guidance for above queries. Your help will be greatly appreciated in this regard.

Kindly reply so that I can decide...!!!

Thanks & Best Regards

Sunando

p.s. I might file HSMP after seven eight months...so does that have any bearing on tax return to be filled now...???

Whilst I'm sure you will get some help from others here, I would recommend that you speak to a tax inspector at the Inland Revenue or as they now like to call themselfs, HM Revenue and Customs. The details of your tax office including a contact number should be shown on your payslip.

It should be but maybe as they have made no deduction it's now showing. You will have to ask your employer which tax office they use as it will not necessarly be a local one. Your local tax office would still be able to give advice, but it will be better to use the one which deals with your company's tax affairs.
